Frequently Asked Questions

This Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document has been developed to support applicants to the Joint Call for European BAUHAUS Courses (EBC) 2026.

Its purpose is to provide clarification on application requirements, course formats, and implementation framework. The document complements the official call text and aims to facilitate the preparation of high-quality proposals aligned with the values of the New European Bauhaus and the strategic objectives of the BAUHAUS4EU Alliance.

While this FAQ addresses the most frequently raised questions, it does not replace the official call documentation.

Additional support

Any further questions can be submitted through the following form: https://sia.unibg.it/limesurvey/index.php?r=survey/index&sid=164625&lang=en

Is it mandatory to choose one of the formats (BIP, COIL, Hackathon), or are they only suggestions?

Yes, applicants must choose one of the three formats. However, local Bauhaus for EU teams can support you in identifying the most suitable format for your idea.

Will the European BAUHAUS Courses Open Call Information Session be recorded?

Yes, the Information Session has been recorded.

Participants who were unable to attend can access the recording at the following link: https://youtu.be/9kASbSNpJ3M

Where are the slides of the European BAUHAUS Courses Open Call Information Session available?

The slides presented during the Information Session have been published on the official BAUHAUS4EU website, in the section dedicated to the European BAUHAUS Courses Open Call: bauhaus4.eu/fileadmin/Media/Documents/Open_Calls/EBC_call_30.03.2026.pdf

Do students receive credits for these courses? How is the course level defined?

Yes, students can receive credits. Detailed information regarding ECTS recognition and course levels is provided in the official call.

Each university may adapt recognition according to its own academic system, in coordination with partner institutions.

Do we need two alliance partners for a hackathon, in addition to external partners?

At least two universities from the alliance must be involved in any proposal. External partners (e.g. stakeholders, companies, institutions) can also be included and are encouraged.

Can new universities join the alliance? Can we collaborate with universities outside the alliance?

The alliance is currently a closed consortium, so new universities cannot join at this stage. Collaboration with external (non-alliance) partners is possible, especially as stakeholders, but proposals must include at least two alliance universities.

If we already have a COIL idea and partners identified (e.g. from the Weimar Staff Week), do we need to register?

Yes. You are encouraged to continue developing your idea and to register in the system. You may also present your proposal during the matchmaking events to receive feedback and connect with additional partners.

Regarding partners: if we already have one academic partner from the alliance, can we include additional partners?

Yes. The minimum requirement is two alliance universities, but additional academic or non-academic partners can be included.

Are the courses referring to the academic year 2026–2027 or 2027–2028?

The courses will be implemented in the calendar year 2027 (January–December).

Calls will be launched on a yearly basis.

How can these courses fit within different academic calendars?

Flexibility depends on the format:

  • BIP: can be organised as standalone short-term activities (including mobility), making them relatively flexible.
  • Hackathon: short duration (typically 2–3 days), easy to integrate into existing courses or schedules.
  • COIL: usually lasts 4–6 weeks and can be integrated into existing courses or organised within a semester (e.g. spring semester).

Each university is encouraged to identify the most suitable solution within its own academic structure and coordinate with partners accordingly.
