Polis University Connects the New European Bauhaus with Regional Action

Representatives of POLIS University took part in the GREEN TIES regional exchange event in Tirana, where participants from Albania, Kosovo and Italy explored how the principles of sustainability, beauty and inclusion can contribute to stronger communities and better public spaces. The event also provided an opportunity to share POLIS University’s experience with the New European Bauhaus and its implementation through the BAUHAUS4EU Alliance.

Sharing the BAUHAUS4EU experience at the GREEN TIES event in Tirana

Representatives of POLIS University took part in a regional exchange event organised by Democracy Plus and GADC Albania, within the GREEN TIES: Connecting Citizens, Heritage and Sustainability project, supported by the European Union.

The event brought together participants from Albania, Kosovo and Italy to explore how the principles of sustainability, beauty and inclusion can be translated into practical approaches for shaping better public spaces and stronger communities. As part of the programme, representatives of POLIS University presented the university’s experience with the New European Bauhaus (NEB) and its implementation through the BAUHAUS4EU Alliance.

Connecting the New European Bauhaus with BAUHAUS4EU

The presentation introduced the BAUHAUS4EU Alliance, its mission, objectives and vision, highlighting the role of European universities in creating more sustainable, inclusive and beautiful places. The POLIS University team shared how the Alliance provides a framework for connecting the principles of the New European Bauhaus with education, research, local communities and territorial development.

Particular attention was given to the importance of collaboration between universities and external stakeholders, demonstrating how higher education institutions can act as platforms for co-creation, experimentation and knowledge exchange.

From regional to interregional collaboration

The presentation also showcased activities that have taken place at POLIS University within the BAUHAUS4EU Alliance, including the Regional Workshop and the Interregional Workshop. These activities have created opportunities for participants to explore local challenges through the NEB perspective, exchange experiences and develop ideas around more sustainable, inclusive and attractive environments.

The Regional Workshop highlighted the importance of working directly with the local and regional context, while the Interregional Workshop connected these discussions with experiences and perspectives from other regions across the BAUHAUS4EU community. Together, these activities demonstrate how the Alliance can help transform the NEB principles from a European vision into locally relevant actions and collaborative processes.

Learning across Albania, Kosovo and Italy

The GREEN TIES event further strengthened this approach by bringing together participants from Tirana (Albania), Prishtina (Kosovo) and Mesagne (Italy). Through discussions on the New European Bauhaus, group work and the exchange of perspectives, participants explored common challenges and identified ideas and possible next steps that could be taken back to their respective communities. For POLIS University, the event represented an opportunity to share the experience developed through BAUHAUS4EU while also learning from initiatives and perspectives emerging from neighbouring countries and regions.

Building bridges between initiatives

The exchange demonstrates the value of connecting different European initiatives that share common principles and ambitions.

While BAUHAUS4EU provides a European university alliance framework for advancing the New European Bauhaus, initiatives such as GREEN TIES create additional spaces for dialogue between citizens, communities, institutions and stakeholders around sustainability, heritage and public space. For POLIS University, these connections are an important part of creating a broader culture of collaboration, inclusion and co-creation.

Looking ahead

Through its continued participation in BAUHAUS4EU and engagement with regional and international initiatives, POLIS University is contributing to the ongoing dialogue on how the New European Bauhaus can be translated into meaningful action.

From workshops at the university to exchanges across European regions, these activities show that the transformation of our built environment is not achieved by one institution alone. It requires collaboration, shared knowledge and active engagement with communities.

The journey continues connecting people, places and ideas to build a more sustainable, inclusive
