Networking, Exchanging Ideas, Collaborating: our First BAUHAUS4EU Forum Takes Place in Portugal

The European University Alliance BAUHAUS4EU is hosting its first forum in Castelo Branco, Portugal, from June 11 to 13, 2025. In addition to the ten participating universities, important partners from the region are invited. The forum will strengthen cooperation at the regional level, facilitate exchange with various European university alliances, and provide space for efficient working sessions in small teams and at all levels. Almost 200 participants are expected to attend.

Three days of workshops, roundtables, and working sessions: participants can expect a packed programme. On the opening day, measures for better cooperation will be developed together with representatives from local politics and the local business association of the Portuguese region Beira Baixa. At the same time, a meeting of university presidents and rectors will take place. The second day of the forum will focus on the topic of European university alliances. In exchange with other alliances, experiences and best practices in Europe-wide cooperation will be shared. On the last day, the participants will meet in their respective working groups to continue working on their specific tasks, strengthened by the diverse impressions they have gained.

Involving regional actors from culture, society, and business is an important part of the project. Through close international cooperation, the alliance creates networks that can also have a positive impact on Thuringia. This holds great potential for the Bauhaus University Weimar: the meeting is a promising opportunity to increase the university's appeal and make its own offerings even more attractive – both for university members from research, teaching, and administration, as well as for our regional partners and the public.

Castelo Branco is located in central Portugal and is known for its well-preserved historic old town, which has developed around the castle that gave the town its name. The Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco, the host of the forum, comprises six faculties: Technology, Health, Education, Arts, Management, and Agriculture. The university is well integrated into the fabric of the region and works closely with companies, local authorities, and civil society organisations in its research and innovation projects.
