The capital municipality is the only municipality in the Sofia region and encompasses 38 settlements spread across plains and mountains, with the Iskar River running through it. With its 7000 years of history, Sofia has witnessed diverse eras and events but has managed to preserve the continuity of life and culture that sets it apart in Europe.
